Sure, Florida might feel like one long season most of the time, but that doesn’t mean your home shouldn’t benefit from a good ol’ spring refresh. It’s the perfect time of year to give your digs some new life—not to mention the perfect excuse to treat yourself to some new items.
But where to start in a world full of options? Not to fear, because we have all the tips and tricks you need to get that brand-new feeling without a major overhaul. Read on to see exactly what you need (and what you don’t need)!
1. Go green:
And we’re not talking about your garden variety garden. Instead, go the faux route to enjoy all the fresh vibes without any of the maintenance. We happen to think a fiddle fig tree adds life to just about any room, or consider a set of framed foliage to bring “living” art to your walls.
2. Add some (more) color:
Spring is all about a new color story, but forget the pastels. This year, we’re loving jeweled tones in gold, blue, and teal hues. You can easily incorporate the trend with home accents like pillows, throws, and tabletop accessories, which will totally invigorate your space in a snap.
This is an obvious one, but it only works if you really commit to it. Take inventory of everything in the room, and ask yourself it it’s adding any value to your overall look. If the answer is no, then donate what’s reusable and trash the rest.
4. Scent the mood:
Scents are strongly associated with memory, so a simple candle change can get you into a spring state of mind—which means out with the mistletoe and cinnamon, and in with the floral and citrus aromas. Lucky for you, we now carry the highly-coveted Volcano candle, among other yummy smells.
5. Rearrange your furniture:
This is by far the most inexpensive way to get a whole new look and feel for the season. Try placing your sofa in a new spot, or point your bed in a different direction. And if you really want to switch things up, move a piece of furniture from one room to another (your nightstand could look SO cute in your home’s entryway).
6. Rethink your shelves:
Sort of like rearranging your furniture, a new approach to your shelves gets big results with minimal effort. This can be as easy as moving around the things you already have, or giving something entirely new purpose. For example, use your cookbook shelf to display your pretty jars and greenery, and stash the cookbooks in the empty cabinet space.
7. Add some new accents:
While we love the idea of reusing what you already own, we’re all for adding a few new things too (plus you’ll have some space to fill if you follow our other tips). Metals of all kind are having a major moment right now, as well as other natural elements like wood and woven textiles.
8. Make a statement (storage):
Getting organized goes hand in hand with spring cleaning, and it just so happens that statement storage is another big trend du jour. So what exactly IS statement storage? Basically, it’s anything that can hold your household items in plain sight while still looking amazing. Whether you go for adding a server to your dining room or just some adorable baskets in the living room, it’s all about adding fashionable function.
9. Update your bedding:
Short of going for the whole bedroom set, a new duvet or comforter can totally change the look of your bedroom. Add some accent pillows and throw blankets to really style the finished product, and then presto-change-o, it’s like an entirely different space.
