Creating a Warm and Welcoming Space: Essentials for A Guest Room

Whether you're frequently hosting family and friends or preparing your home for occasional overnight guests, the guest room should be a welcoming sanctuary. After all, a well-designed guest room can make visitors feel comfortable, valued, and right at home!

Designer Commentary: Jennifer Koff

“Let's be real: your guest bedroom is the ultimate indicator of whether your in-laws will leave impressed or with a chip on their shoulder. Sure, your décor may flow effortlessly throughout your home, leaving no stone unturned, but comfort is in the details, not just in the big picture. A good sleep partly comes down to the bedding. Stick with muted tones like ivory or slate, or classic patterns like pinstripes, to make your guest feel at ease. Breathable fabrics like our Rest and Renew Organic Cotton duvet and sheet sets are a safe bet. Don’t overdo accent pillows either, as that creates more maintenance for your guests (putting them on, taking them off, laying on them-yuck!). For your guests, keep the bedding simple so they can rest easy and acclimate to your space. And remember, never forget a mattress protector!” - Designer Jennifer Koff

Quality Bedding

Essentials for a Comfortable Guest Room

Quality Bedding

The bed is the focal point of any bedroom, and the guest room is no exception. Invest in quality mattresses and bed linens. Aim for neutral colors that can appeal to the diverse preferences of your guests.

Adequate Storage

Adequate Storage

Provide enough space for your guests to unpack. A clean, empty dresser and some free hangers in the closet will go a long way. This helps guests settle in and makes their stay more enjoyable.

Lighting Options

Lighting Options

Good lighting is vital. Provide different lighting options, whether it is a bedside lamp or floor lamp, having an adjustable brightness will allow your guests to adjust the lighting to their activities and mood.

Seating Area

Seating Area

If space permits, a small seating area can be a lovely addition. A comfortable chair or even a loveseat can provide a private space for your guests to read or relax. If you find yourself short on bedrooms for your guests, adding in a sleeper sofa can accommodate more guests.
Room Amenities

Room Amenities

Think hotel-style and include amenities like a bottle of water, a selection of books or magazines, and a small desk. These small touches show thoughtfulness.

Personal Touches

Personal Touches

Personal touches like fresh flowers & greenery or a welcome note can make your guests feel special. You can also include a guide to your local area or a list of recommended restaurants.

Designing the perfect guest room creates a comfortable and welcoming space that caters to the needs of your guests. With these essential elements in mind, you're well on your way to becoming the ultimate host!
